Job Description:

Wheelock College Library seeks an innovative, highly-motivated, service-oriented Instruction and Reference Librarian with an enthusiasm for teaching. Must have a passion for the role information literacy can play in student success, and an appreciation for working in a collaborative environment. Creative, energetic, knowledgeable professionals are encouraged to apply.

The Instruction and Reference Librarian manages all aspects of instruction and reference services for library users; and provides leadership in planning, evaluating and delivering library and information literacy instruction in support of the mission of the College.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Plans, implements, promotes, and assesses instruction programs for information literacy and library research for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develops and produces library information materials, including bibliographies, guides, handouts, and instructions, both in print and online.
  • Develops and provides 24/7 instruction by creating other tools and services utilizing web-based technologies, such as tutorials, screen casts, course and subject guides.
  • Performs reference duties by assisting users with information and research needs, utilizing new technologies as appropriate.
  • Hires, trains, oversees, and develops graduate reference assistants, and coordinates reference desk services.
  • Responsible for outreach to faculty and staff, and for developing additional collaborative opportunities.
  • Participates in collection development and assessment activities for the reference collections and other areas as assigned.
  • Participates in development of Library's website.
  • Participates in marketing and other awareness activities.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in library or information science.
  • 2 or more years of post-degree academic library experience teaching information literacy classes and providing reference services.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, and knowledge of information literacy concepts, competencies, and best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, work independently and collaboratively on multiple projects in a fast and changing environment.
  • Ability to work evening or weekend hours as needed.
